Love Live! 4.0 - The Newest Spin: A review of Love Live! Superstar!!

Superstar is the newest reiteration in a beloved franchise.

The 4th reiteration of Love Live! aired during the Summer 2021 anime season, with a 2nd season officially announced. This series of the School Idol Project had it's own charm and I consider this series my favorite of the 4. The main cast consists of 5 girls, a change from the usual 9 members. I personally think this allowed each character to shine more and allowed a better backstory for each character. This main character (MC) is different from the first two seasons MC in personality and is probably my favorite MC. Following a couple of typical Love Live tropes, this season follows on how the group forms to perform at Love Live, the national concert stage for school idols. There's a little bit of drama and overcoming obstacles and I felt the MC's struggles were realistic and relatable.

*SPOILER AHEAD*

The switch to 5 characters really allowed the time for each girl to have their own story arc episode. We of course also had to have the eccentric member and the student council president join. The main MC, Kanon, struggles and obstacles had me relate to her (I'm not a huge fan of public speaking), which is a first from the other 3 MCs. I thought the main group obstacle (school is closing down because of $$) was typical and expected. All the voice actors here were great singers and I really enjoyed all the songs. Can't wait for the second season.
