Anniversary

Happy anniversary to the group that brought me back into Kpop. I became a fan when the group started to promote Time for the Moon Night. A beautiful masterpiece of a song. GFriend is also where I began my unfortunate obsession with signed goods (unfortunate for my wallet..). GFriend's entire history is so intriguing. Hailing for a very small company, with member changes before debut, it's motivating how they become one of the most popular groups with basically girls thrown together. While their popularity did not match other girl groups that debuted around the same time (Twice, etc), GFriend has a pretty sizeable fanbase in Asian countries. While their peak to fame came with the songs Me Gustas Tu and Rough, they were steadily rising back with songs like Crossroads and Mago. Unfortunately, contract negotiations did not go through (and really, what did happen??) and the group disbanded May 22, 2021, 6 years after their debut song Glass Bead was released.

News

Amongst the ashes of GFriend arose new beginnings. Members Kim Sojung (formerly Sown), Kim Yerin, and Choi "Yuju" Yuna are now solo acts, which Yuju set to debut as a soloist on January 18, 2022. Members Jung "Eunha" Eunbi, Hwang "SinB" Eunbi, and Kim "Umji" Yewon have rebranded themselves as VIVIZ and are set to debut in Feburary 2022. I hope good things to come for them. Yuju's MV teaser has me spectacularly surprised and excited.

Here are 2 of my favorite songs that GFriend has released. Please support Yuju and the VIVIZ girls for their debut!

The ICONIC Rain in the Spring Time acapella

And just to flex because I never get to show off my Kpop collection
