What makes a lightstick?
Lights have always been an integral part of the concert experience. Whether it be the lightshow stage effects, or the crowd waving around lighters and swaying back and forth. Lightsticks have become an integral part of a KPop concert experience. Most groups announce and start selling their lightsticks in their 2nd and 3rd years and are designed to best match the groups theme. Many contain bluetooth technology to allow phone app synchronization for manual control as well as for what I call "concert control". Concert control is when the groups concert team at the venue is able to program every lightstick in the arena to form color formations when the owner inputs the concert seats into the app. It's very surreal to see it in action. Too bad not many concerts overseas get the opportunity to use the concert control function as the equipment is large and expensive.
What about the Mondoggie?
That leads us into the review about Monsta X's version 2 lightstick. Looking at photos of the version 1 lightstick, it doesn't look that much different other than coloring and size. It's definitely BRIGHT and the included display stand is a nice bonus. There is an app to connect the lightstick to your phone via bluetooth. Unfortunately, the app itself is the bare minimum and only allows the user to input their concert seat. No color or setting changes from the app.
My Rating: 7/10 - Above Average
I think the Monsta X lightstick is about as average as you can get for lightsticks. The pure black is a bit boring and the overall all look is too "minimalism" for my taste. While I really like the crystal shape of the "bulb", the lack of ability to change color manually by the user is a bit of the bummer. What bumps it up is the included display stand, which not many other lightsticks include. This makes it look nice on a bookshelf when displaying. See below for my video unboxing!
