First Anime Figure EVER?!?
I'm dating myself here, but Bleach came out when I was in Jr High and took the nerd/weeb culture by storm. In popularity, it was on par with One Piece and Naruto to create "the Big 3" nickname. I watched the subbed anime and read the entire manga series. There is a lot of nostalgia for me with this anime, even though I don't like the series as much - I'd rate the series a 6.5/10. Because the anime is so old, there are not many figures from the series. With the announcement that Bleach is coming out with a new season, I'm hoping for more figures and more characters to be released at a more reasonable budget. Some of the scale figures with upcoming releases (Rangiku and Gin!!) look amazing, but I am not in the position to be dropping that kind of money just yet.
On to the review of this prize figure. This figure can be found on most online stores for approximately $27. It's a pretty basic figure. It came with a base, 2 support structures, a sword, and the character - which came in two pieces. Putting the figure together was pretty straightforward. The bottom half friction fit into the top half. Threading in the sword piece into his hand was tricky as it the chain felt a bit fragile. After a little bit of finagling, the sword handle should slide through. I recommend putting the figure together and then putting the supports in and then placing him onto the base.
My Rating: 6/10 - Average
Overall, I think this figure is decent for the price. There are some paint ships on the pants are and there is no shading done on his uniform. I do like that his jacket uniform is made of 3 colors (red, white, and black) but the jagged edges are a bit rough (not smooth cuts). If looking at the figure straight on, and not on the display base, you will notice that his torso area looks unnaturally long. I now think this is ok and was meant for a reason, because when on the base Ichigo looks fine body proportions wise. His head though bothers me, his face seems too small for the hair. Again, you get what you paid for.
